Temporarily share your mobile phone's internet access (USB tethering)
Sometimes, it is needed to get internet on a system (either of our products) because the primary way through a LAN cable is not working reliably, ports are blocked or simply there is none available. Here is how you can still provide internet to update or remotely control the system through the web admin.
You need to access the USB ports on your system's computer:
- On Multiball, the computer is inside the console at the top of the frame.
- For interactiveSQUASH, the computer is where the projector is (up to Generation 2) or, inside the tin.
Please note that if the system hasn't received updates in a while and the applications (such as the games) are also outdated, the update process can take considerable time and require downloading several gigabytes of data.
If only system updates are needed, the required download is typically much smaller - usually around 100 MB.
In any case, please check whether additional charges may apply when using your phone's data connection for this purpose.
How to share the internet?
First of all, unplug the LAN cable on the PC. After that, just follow the instructions for your type of Mobile Phone.
Android
Go to Settings and select Connections there
In Connections, go to Mobile Hotspot and Tethering
Connect your phone to one of the USB ports of the computer. Until then the option USB tethering is grayed out.
Once connected, activate USB tethering.
iOS
Go to Settings and select Personal Hotspot there
In Personal Hotspot, enable Allow Others to Join
Connect your phone to one of the USB ports of the computer. A popup on your iPhone appears. Click Trust to enable the connection.
You may need to enter your iPhone passcode afterward.
What if it still does not work?
Reboot the PC
Depending on how long your system was offline, it might be necessary to reboot the PC of your System.
- On MultiBall, simply short-press the button on the PC that is lit blue.
- On interactiveSQUASH, short-press the little power button on the side opposite to where the USB connectors are, you can reach it from the outside using a screwdriver.
After pressing the button it may take some time to shut down, press it again to power the PC on again.
Other considerations
If updates are not starting like expected, make sure you do not have a safe time configured in the system's settings, which would then wait until the configured daytime is reached.
